Providing an Authentic Safari Experience

Martin Meyer Safaris (PTY) Ltd was founded in 2008 by Martin Meyer and Nicole Schuttelaars.

Martin and Nicole lived and worked in Africa and Europe, travelling, exploring, engaging and developing a deep conservation ethos for the natural realm and her people. This innovative approach is what we use to handcraft our signature brand of African safaris.

Martin’s in-depth knowledge of each destination’s uniqueness, along with his ability to craft tailor-made safaris offering specialist guiding for clients is what empowers the Martin Meyer Safaris team.

Our team of destination experts and safari guides’ greatest asset is their experience, motivation and dedication to continually customise, plan and lead exhilarating safaris and travel holidays throughout Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.

Martin Meyer Safaris success is measured by the growing numbers of repeat clientele.

Our clients are delighted to discover that excitement and attention to detail is woven into each travel itinerary, handcrafted with passion, enthusiasm and a huge dose of African hospitality.

Our Network

Martin has been in the safari business for many years and has built up a solid network of contacts allowing our clientele to experience, engage and escape to the most remote and exclusive areas in Africa and the Indian Ocean islands with a portfolio of luxury camps and lodges.

Our preferred partners own the lodges and camps we use, which benefits you as a traveller. We have trade agreements with all the properties we use, which means it’s always more cost effective to book through our company, as your safari ground operator. This benefits you financially as we receive a predetermined fixed rate from our partner camps and lodges, which is much less than the public rate one receives when booking direct.

These leaders of the safari realm give you another level of knowledge, fun and enjoyment when on safari, allowing you access and a deeper insight to some of the most sought after ‘off the beaten track’ travel experiences.

We endeavour to always show a respect to Africa, her people and our natural heritage.

Conservation Safaris

Martin Meyer Safaris designs handcrafted travel safaris that combine quintessential safaris in Africa with exclusive experiences to sustain, educate, support and grow awareness of the plight of the organisations we give back to. Help veterinary teams microchip and notch the vulnerable rhino populations through our Team Nkombe Rhino NPC, in South Africa and Kenya.

Spend time with our expert researchers in monitoring and satellite collaring Africa’s most endangered carnivore the African wild dog. Volunteer your expertise and time as we educate and implement socio-economic reforms at severely impoverished kindergarten schools. Join a dynamic counselling team to help spread the message of saying ‘NO’ to abuse against women and children on the African continent.

Can food allergies be catered for on safari?
With advance notice, most food allergies can be catered for on safari. We are used to catering for vegetarians, vegans, gluten intolerant, dairy and those clientele who are wheat intolerant.
Can I charge my camera, phone and other devices on safari?
Yes, all camps have re-charging facilities.
Is the water safe to drink?
The water in the camps and lodges we use, is surprisingly clean and safe to drink, however bottled water is supplied for your peace of mind. It is not recommended to drink water from streams or other waterways.
Can I use a credit card at the safari camps & lodges?
Yes, major credit cards are accepted at all – but the most remote camps.
How can I convert my money to local currency?
Most airports have exchange facilities for your convenience. It is not recommended to change monies, on the street as you may not receive the correct exchange rate. Remember that you will
receive change in the local currency, so it’s best to have small denominations on hand for tips and
souvenirs. However we will advise you of this depending on which safari you choose.
Can I get laundry done on safari?
With the exception of a few remote mobile camps, all our camps and lodges provide a laundry service on a daily basis.
Do I need a visa?
Once you have a destination in mind we can advise of any documentation that may be necessary and the local charges for your visa.
Does Martin Meyer Safaris arrange travel insurance?
Your travel insurance must be arranged in your country of origin. This can be done with your local travel agent, ticket booking authority or with your normal insurance provider. We provide travel insurances for the tourism sector of your safari in Africa, with medical evacuation if needed.
Do I need to take malaria prophylactics?
Yes, with the exception of urban areas in South Africa’s major cities.

Mosquitoes and other insects are generally not a major issue on safari, however we will advise you on when and where – you need to take malaria prophylactics. Consult your local travel clinic for the best options for you. Wearing light coloured clothing and covering up during the hours of sunrise and sunset will provide further protection against mosquitoes.

Can I bring children on safari?
Most camps are family friendly, but there are some lodges which have a minimum age for guests.
We are happy to find the perfect accommodation for you and your family!
