Providing an Authentic Safari Experience
Martin Meyer Safaris (PTY) Ltd was founded in 2008 by Martin Meyer and Nicole Schuttelaars.
Martin and Nicole lived and worked in Africa and Europe, travelling, exploring, engaging and developing a deep conservation ethos for the natural realm and her people. This innovative approach is what we use to handcraft our signature brand of African safaris.
Martin’s in-depth knowledge of each destination’s uniqueness, along with his ability to craft tailor-made safaris offering specialist guiding for clients is what empowers the Martin Meyer Safaris team.
Our team of destination experts and safari guides’ greatest asset is their experience, motivation and dedication to continually customise, plan and lead exhilarating safaris and travel holidays throughout Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.
Martin Meyer Safaris success is measured by the growing numbers of repeat clientele.
Our clients are delighted to discover that excitement and attention to detail is woven into each travel itinerary, handcrafted with passion, enthusiasm and a huge dose of African hospitality.
How We Work
We cover a wide variety of itinerary options – tailor-made safaris and adventures. Our travel plans are handcrafted to your preferences, whether you are a solo traveler seeking solitude, a family group looking for unique fun filled adventures or wanting to spoil your significant other on a romantic escape.
Is your corporate team committed to responsible tourism? Let us customise your Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative. Would you prefer a privately guided safari for your ‘besties’ group of friends? We take pride in taking discerning travellers to remote wilderness areas and providing an authentic African safari experience.
We are an independently owned safari company established in early 2008. Our committed team of destination experts look after global customers and are waiting to help you design your signature safari itinerary – this is what we do for clients from every corner of the global village.
Martin Meyer Safaris use owner-run lodges wherever possible and always strive to provide value for money and the best possible game-viewing and culturally sensitive travel experiences. We believe in sustainable tourism that benefits the wildlife and local communities. Above all, we love Africa and we want to share this love with you!
What We Do
Whether you are planning an Okavango Delta exploration safari, a romantic getaway to the Indian Ocean islands, a specialised conservation adventure to Kenya or a multi-generational family safari journey to South Africa, our destination experts will carefully create a unique handcrafted travel itinerary especially for you.
We absolutely understand that the options are endless when you begin planning your safari alongside your dedicated destination expert.
We are available 24/7 to listen to your trip ideas, bucket-lists and life-long safari dreams. Share your vision with us, sit back and we’ll design your comprehensive itinerary seamlessly, for your pure indulgence and enjoyment at some of the finest locations on the vast African continent.
Let us redefine your understanding of travel, heritage, eco-awareness and style.
Vacay on the Chobe Princess, your very own private villa on the water, as you drift down the Chobe River and spot incredible wildlife scenes. You’ll be able to completely relax in an intimate river safari experience. Experience mobile luxury tented camps with every creature comfort on the vast Serengeti plains and Maasai Mara ecosystems.
Take a helicopter flight over the mighty Victoria Falls, capture a selfie with the magnificent ‘smoke that thunders’ and double rainbow on the Zambezi River. Your romantic getaway destination awaits.
Shop for lost antiques, trinkets and spices as you explore the ancient alleyways and streets of Old Stone Town on Zanzibar. Track gorillas through the lush tropical forests, hiking the mountainous regions of Uganda. Enjoy freshly-caught seafood and delectable fresh fruit platters on the private beach enclaves of Madagascar.
Spend time learning to track Africa’s big cats on the plains of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Join conservationists and wildlife veterinary teams as we microchip the threatened white rhino populations with conservationists deep within the Greater Kruger National Park biosphere.
Try your hand at fishing for the elusive tigerfish, one of the greatest fighting fish in the world, on the Kasai channels of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers. Learn to cook a three course meal over the open coals deep within Botswana’s Tuli region, with a food and wine pairing masterclass, whilst learning about the Milky Way and southern hemisphere constellations. Spend days with the nomadic hunter-gatherer tribes whilst learning the secret art of bushcraft and biomimicry in the heartlands of Namibia.
Learn the art of wildlife photography from professional photographers in Moremi, Linyanti and Savute and national parks areas – known as a photographer’s paradise and for good reason.
Broaden your understanding of the vital role you can play in curbing the rollercoaster of climate change, as you track collar and record data through telemetry of the critically endangered African wild dog. Sit quietly on your canoe surrounded by a memory of elephants as you watch the special matriarchal bonding between the cutest playing calves and their extended family in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools, as the wildlife comes to drink water.
Alternatively, simply laze on a deck chair with an ice-cold drink in hand as you soak up the tranquility that surrounds you on Lake Malawi.
Martin has been in the safari business for many years and has built up a solid network of contacts allowing our clientele to experience, engage and escape to the most remote and exclusive areas in Africa and the Indian Ocean islands with a portfolio of luxury camps and lodges.
Our preferred partners own the lodges and camps we use, which benefits you as a traveller. We have trade agreements with all the properties we use, which means it’s always more cost effective to book through our company, as your safari ground operator. This benefits you financially as we receive a predetermined fixed rate from our partner camps and lodges, which is much less than the public rate one receives when booking direct.
We specialise in private tailor-made safaris guided by some of Africa’s best professional safari guides.
These leaders of the safari realm give you another level of knowledge, fun and enjoyment when on safari, allowing you access and a deeper insight to some of the most sought after ‘off the beaten track’ travel experiences.
We endeavour to always show a respect to Africa, her people and our natural heritage.
Martin Meyer Safaris designs handcrafted travel safaris that combine quintessential safaris in Africa with exclusive experiences to sustain, educate, support and grow awareness of the plight of the organisations we give back to. Help veterinary teams microchip and notch the vulnerable rhino populations through our Team Nkombe Rhino NPC, in South Africa and Kenya.
Spend time with our expert researchers in monitoring and satellite collaring Africa’s most endangered carnivore the African wild dog. Volunteer your expertise and time as we educate and implement socio-economic reforms at severely impoverished kindergarten schools. Join a dynamic counselling team to help spread the message of saying ‘NO’ to abuse against women and children on the African continent.
Chat to us about our heartfelt list of the most exhilarating and rewarding conservation safaris, where we believe in giving our time, financial support to long term sustainability initiatives.
If it is your first time to visit the continent we’ve got you covered from A-Z. Our detailed departure notes and 24/7 safari concierge service means you have peace of mind throughout your journey until you return home.
We are always happy to answer any questions you have. Trust us, there is no such thing as a ‘stupid question’ – we will do our best to answer all your questions no matter how silly you think that question might be….
Can food allergies be catered for on safari?
Can I charge my camera, phone and other devices on safari?
Is the water safe to drink?
Can I use a credit card at the safari camps & lodges?
How can I convert my money to local currency?
receive change in the local currency, so it’s best to have small denominations on hand for tips and
souvenirs. However we will advise you of this depending on which safari you choose.
Can I get laundry done on safari?
Do I need a visa?
Does Martin Meyer Safaris arrange travel insurance?
Do I need to take malaria prophylactics?
Mosquitoes and other insects are generally not a major issue on safari, however we will advise you on when and where – you need to take malaria prophylactics. Consult your local travel clinic for the best options for you. Wearing light coloured clothing and covering up during the hours of sunrise and sunset will provide further protection against mosquitoes.
Can I bring children on safari?
We are happy to find the perfect accommodation for you and your family!
